Galataport Istanbul Port Operations Deputy General Manager Figen Ayan made a statement to Özge Yavuz from Dünya Newspaper.

Stating that their goal is to serve 1.5 million passengers plus crew, Figen Ayan said; “I am ambitious, we will implement this in 2024. The number of expeditions will be 400-450,” he said.

By the end of the year, we will have served a total of 150 ships. 150 ships correspond to a total of 450 thousand passengers until the end of the year. Actually, next year is extremely hopeful for us. We will host 250 ships. It is useful to explain the following point here; You can also be a transit port here. What does that mean? The ship arrives for a day, and leaves after visiting the historical peninsula. The important point here is to position this place as a main port.

CURRENTLY, 50 PERCENT OF 150 voyages use GALATAPORT as a MAIN PORT

In the days when we took over this place, only 13 percent of the voyages were using Karaköy as the main port. The ships were much smaller. Currently, 50 percent of the 150 inbound flights use Galataport as their main port.

COURSE PASSENGER Spends $400 ONE DAY

While a tourist coming to Turkey outside the cruise sector spends 62 dollars a day, a cruise passenger spends 400 dollars a day.

WE CARE ABOUT THE CREW AS PASSENGERS

There is also the crew, which no one knows or thinks about, which is actually the ‘iceberg’ of this industry. When the ship of 3 thousand people arrives, it has a crew of 1,200 people. This crew spends $70 a day. We care about the crew as much as the passengers. And we provide them free WiFi in our port, discount shopping in stores. And most importantly, we provide an opportunity for them to use the entire port instead of keeping them in a certain area.

AGREEMENTS MADE WITH GIANTS

MSC Cruise, one of the giant brands of the sector, will increase the number of flights to Galataport from 3 this year to 23 next year. Goal at Galataport: 1.5 million passengers

Industry giant Royal Caribbean will also make 8 flights to Galataport in 2023.
At the moment, we are talking about the year 2025 in reservations with companies. In this sector, reservations are always talked about 2 years in advance. We are doing very well in Galataport. Our goals are to serve 1.5 million passengers plus crew. I am ambitious, we will implement this in 2024. The number of expeditions is 400-450.
