Stating that there was the excitement of the 100th anniversary in Biga, which was liberated from the enemy occupation on September 18, 1922, Erdoğan said, “We were proud and happy to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Biga, one of the exceptional cities of our country with its historical, natural beauties, patriotic and hardworking people.

Biga, the City of Hearts, has been a unique geography where various human communities and civilizations have developed and lived since the earliest times. With its deep-rooted history, it has survived countless wars and struggles for centuries.

Important developments of the War of Independence took place in the lands of Biga, the most strategically important region of the world, such as Çanakkale, the spiritual capital of our country.

The 100th year has been our year of duty. A century has passed since our Biga was liberated from enemy occupation. The liberation events created enthusiasm all over the city.”

HISTORY AND NATURE REACHING TO THE SUNDAY

Erdoğan continues: “The ancient name of our Kemer village, now called Parion. Our Biga has hosted many civilizations since its foundation. 80,000 people lived here 2,000 years ago in Parion. Biga is the place where Alexander the Great went to Anatolia and defeated the Persians.

You can go on a very long historical journey in the lands of Biga, which served as a sanjak during the Ottoman period. When we look at the tourism destination of our Biga; Our meat, milk and especially our meatballs are famous. We have natural beauties and thermal water. We have a Lotus Lake and lotus flowers are blooming on the water.

Our Nilüfer Lake project was completed and opened to the public. We have started the Abdiağa Çağlayan Trekking Track project, which will contribute greatly to the nature tourism of the district.

We define it as our trekking project that will become the new route of nature lovers. Every day, new historical information, living remains and artifacts emerge from the land area of the Ancient City of Parion.

Excavations have been going on since 2005. Remarkable ruins excite us all. The history and civilization here will be brought to light and both will be brought to tourism and transferred to the future.”
